x = 6

First thing first... get those Xs all on one side of the equal sign.
To eliminate an X from one side, simply subtract it out. But what you do to one side must also be done to the other side. Example: subtract 2x from both sides. You should have 8=X+2

Second: now you need to get all the numbers on the side of the equal sign opposite the Xs. To do this, subtract the number that is on the side with the Xs out. Then do the same to the other side.
Example: subtract 2 from both sides. You should end up with 6=X

Solution: x = 6

8+2x=3x+2
Put like terms together on opposite sides of the =. Remember, they change signs when crossing:
8 - 2 = 3x - 2x
6 = x

Subtract 2 from each side, then subtract 2x from each side. That leaves 6 = x or x = 6.

8+2x=3x+2
-2x -2x

1. You subtract 2x on both sides

8 = x + 2
-2 -2

2. Then you subtract 2 on both sides

6 = x

3. Tada! Your answer is 6
