I'm planning on getting the Alien Ware M14x gaming laptop this August... I tell my friends at school and they say I am lucky, but when I ask my other friends who have laptops and are computer geeks, they say i am better off getting a different brand/computer because alien ware hardware sucks, one of them said that alien ware is the PC version of MAC... but he was just joking of course, the battery life isn't that good, but its a gaming laptop, i am gonna leave it charging in my room while i am playing anyway, but for my senior year of school next year, i am gonna need to take it to school for my first 3 hours of school (i am gonna take Advanced Animation for 2 hours, and Video Game Design 2 class for 1 hour) each class is about 55 minutes, so i don't know if the laptop is gonna lose a lot of battery life during the day, but then again i am not gonna play games all day in class lol... but seriously, is the alien ware laptop a good choice? i just want a gaming laptop to use at home most of the time, and use at school some of the time (you know for school project and whatnot)

Are Alien Ware laptops really THAT bad?
Best Answer
People say they suck because they are way too overpriced. They also add a lot of gimmicks to most of their newer computers, which probably raises the price by another couple hundred bucks, although they are pretty cool gimmicks.
Other than gimmick and price, they are really good, best gaming computers you can get (not at a fair price). They can outperform most computers, and they look pretty badass.
I have an Alienware, and it is way better than most computers i have used. Almost never lags or slows down for an average use of games and internet, at full potential
Most who say they suck, just can't afford one and wants to hate on it.

The parts aren't necessarily bad but Alienware is just extremely overpriced.
Spend the money and buy a Desktop-more room for you to upgrade
I don't have much experience with AlienWare, but the hardware specifications aren't bad.Alienware computers are on the pricey side, but so are most Mac laptops, and I'd never get a PC laptop. My first laptop was a mac.I've used tons of PC laptops (before & after my laptop) and they usually are clunky and awkward feeling to use.My 2nd mac laptop has a glass trackpad and it's just as silky smooth as when I first bought it, even after nearly 4 years of constant use.
In my experience it's generally a bad idea buying a laptop for gaming purposes, because: (no specific order)
*The GPU in it is probly going to become outdated before you leave the store. (Not really lol but it feels like it)
*Battery life generally isn't that great. It's kinda like expecting a high performance car to have comparable gas milage as a hybrid.
*They (gaming laptops) typically become very warm and uncomfortable to use, even when not gaming (Don't know about alienware's laptops).
*A $2,500 laptop will probly be worth $700 within 2 years.
The only condition I'd buy a gaming laptop would be as a desktop replacement (and if GPU can be upgraded, like in some very high-end gaming laptops).By 'desktop replacement' I mean using it like a desktop: using external monitor as primary screen (leaving the laptop closed), and using USB mouse & keyboard. That way you'd have the power of a desktop, with the ability to go with you where ever you need it.
